Project Symbiosis with Ian Helliwell
Ian Helliwell, prolific super 8mm filmmaker since 1990, musician/composer, electronic instrument builder, projectionist… comes in to discuss his latest CD release: Project Symbiosis, an electronic music composition designed for realisation by readers of Practical Electronics in 1975. The project was initiated by engineer G.D. Shaw and composer Malcolm Pointon. Sound artist Dan Wilson contributed one track and joins in the discussion. Despite having produced over 130 films since 1990 Helliwell is absent from a new book: Artists’ Moving Image in Britain Since 1989, as am I. We look forward to Nicky Hamlyn’s critique of this book due to appear in the next issue of Millennium journal.
