Jonas Mekas 1922-2019
I thought I would replay an interview I did with Jonas Mekas in 2008 but it froze after 7 minutes. Fortunately it still existed in the Resonance archive so I was able to re-broadcast this 30 minute recording two days after Mekas’s death. The Guardian obituary contains at least one glaring error; describing The Brig as a cinéma vérité record of life in a Marine corps jail which makes me wonder if the writer has ever seen the film. This particular film by Mekas is actually a film of the play by Julian Beck and The Living Theatre. Today’s broadcast includes part of “Jonas Mekas: Ovation in Paris” published by archives sonores des cinémas as a limited edition CD in 2009.
