After a favourable response to last week’s playing of a Henry Flynt track, I decided this week to revive an interview I did with Henry ten years ago which was first broadcast in December 2008. He speaks mostly about abstract film. The interview took place in Soho, London. Henry had come over to play his music at Café Oto and also to show a couple of his new films at the Serpentine Gallery. In the event, the screening had to be abandoned due to technical difficulties; apparently the projector couldn’t deal with Henry’s DVDs. The films were eventually shown a year or so later at a poorly attended screening at the Notting Hill (Gate or Coronet?). Such is the fate of abstract avant-garde films! So after re-broadcasting the broadcast from 2008 I played various tracks from Henry Flynt and Nova Billy (1975) and a lengthy drone track by Tony Conrad and Alexandria Gelencser ‘live in Austin Texas 1999’. http://www.henryflynt.org
