Panasonic Rage

One of many cassettes rescued from Datchet Cottage. Captain Maurice Seddon (Royal Signals Retired) recorded hundreds of telephone conversations over the years. This one dates from 4th April 1993 when he contacted Panasonic regarding repairs to a Kingfisher answering machine. The speed wanders. After 35 minutes, the programme switches to Artists’ Records by Cranfield and Slade. First, 2 tracks from 12 Sun Songs, cover versions of songs which include the Sun in some way; The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore followed by Waterloo Sunset. This LP is on yellow vinyl with a yellow label and no writing so it looks like the Sun. Cranfield and Slade are Canadian. The second LP is called 10 Riot Songs and is in a very different mood. The whole of side 2 is played from Riot to Fuck You. From the sleeve notes by Eileen Myles: “…Right? I mean Olympics are always fascist opportunities to hide or epcot (sic) (?) whatever kind of urban culture remains in a place… …It’s morning in the world and everyone all of us are so fucking mad and ignited”.
