12 Paintings for Radio

A painting exhibition live from Resonance 104.4 fm, London. A project by Leonardo Vargas and part of a series of other projects proposing a reflection on the notion of presence in painting, along with /02-25-11/ and Ribba 16 (a 5-minute painting live from the van Abbemuseum). The idea of painting being an entity that occupies a specific physical space and the concept of presence itself constitute an important part in the painterly discourse. The project aims to reflect on this status of presence in painting and the render of perception that takes place within its dialogue with other systems for information flow. A series of 12 paintings (executed in traditional media and format) was produced to be later digitally photographed. The resulting 12 images were inserted into a sound software that interpreted the digital data from each picture as sound. This painting series will be only exhibited as sound for one and only time on Wavelength live from Resonance 104.4fm, London. After the exhibition, the 12 paintings will be archived to remain hidden from the public view. Followed by liquid poetry by Arrigo Lora-Totino and Piero Fogliati, “Early in the Morning” by Yoko Ono, Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon; one sided 10″ vinyl record, edition of 1000. Finally “Emile Josome Hodinos: Passion Slave” by Gabriel Severin.
